Solar panels in Cameron Park

Solar, batteries and EV chargers for Cameron Park, Cardiff, Cardiff Heights, Cardiff South, Edgeworth, Glendale and Macquarie Hills — the whole 2285 postcode. Hunter storms are not a hypothetical, and the question people ask here is whether panels survive them. They mostly do, by design and to a published standard. The part worth knowing is what damage looks like when it happens, because the kind that costs you money is usually the kind you cannot see.

  • 6.6kW systems estimated from about $3,990 after the STC discount
  • Panel make and model named, so you can check the certification
  • Post-storm testing on existing systems, including ones we did not install

After a storm

Hail, and the damage you cannot see from the ground

Every panel on the market is tested against hail, which is more reassurance than most people are given and less than the whole story. The failure that actually costs households money is not the one that leaves glass on the lawn — it is the one that leaves everything looking exactly as it did, while the system quietly makes less than it used to.

25mm at 23m/s

The standard impact test fires ice balls of that size and speed at eleven separate points on a module — cell centres, edges and corners. To pass, it must show no visible damage and lose no more than five per cent of its output. A severe-weather class exists too, tested with 75mm ice.

Microcracks, not broken glass

Hail hard enough to matter but not hard enough to shatter can leave fractures in the cells behind intact glass. Nothing looks wrong from the ground or from the roof. The only reliable symptom is output that has stepped down and stayed down.

Monitoring is the evidence

Compare the weeks after a storm against comparable weeks before it. That is a measurement; walking around the house looking up is not. This is the reason worth setting monitoring up properly on day one, long before you have a reason to need it.

Do not get on the roof to check

A wet roof after a storm is a genuinely dangerous place, and the array is live whenever daylight falls on it no matter what is switched off at the board. If glass is visibly broken, keep people clear of the ground underneath, leave it alone and call someone qualified — the system can wait a day. What a proper inspection involves is more than looking: string-by-string output comparison to localise a fault, electrical testing including insulation resistance to find what is invisible, and a check of the fixings, rail joints and clamps, since what a storm actually does to an array is mostly wind rather than ice. We will do that on a system we did not install, and we would rather tell you nothing is wrong than find you a reason to buy something. One last thing to do before any of it is needed: confirm with your insurer that your building sum insured was revised when the system went on.

Network rules change and every connection is approved on its own merits — we confirm the limit that applies to your address in writing before install day.

The force that actually tests an array

Ice gets the attention and wind does the damage. Where an array fails in a storm it is almost always the connection to the roof rather than the panel itself, and that comes down to things you can compare between quotes — how many roof attachments, what rail spacing, and what wind region and terrain category the design assumed. Our Horsley page gives you the two questions that sort serious quotes from optimistic ones.

Batteries

Adding a battery in Cameron Park

Home batteries attract two separate incentives. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program takes an estimated $3,402 off a 13.5 kWh battery, and NSW’s NSW VPP connection incentive (battery via federal program) can add more on top. Already have solar? We check your inverter first — some systems take a battery as they are, others need a hybrid inverter.

≈ $3,402

Estimated federal rebate on 13.5 kWh of usable storage

+ NSW

NSW virtual power plant (VPP) incentive when you connect an eligible battery to a VPP, on top of the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount. The NSW upfront battery discount ended for installs from 1 July 2025.

Planning an EV?

Size your solar for it now. Our 10kW package comes pre-wired for a battery and an EV charger, so adding one later is a small job rather than a rebuild.

From quote to switch-on

How a Cameron Park install works

  1. Step 1

    Free assessment

We review your roof, shading, switchboard and a recent bill, and check the condition of the roof itself — because mounting is only as good as what it is fixed to.

  2. Step 2

    Written quote

A quote naming the panel and inverter make and model, so you can look up the certification the modules hold rather than take an adjective for it.

  3. Step 3

    Network approval

We lodge your grid-connection application and confirm any export limit before install day.

  4. Step 4

    Installation

Accredited electricians install, test and commission the system, then clean up. The fixing count and layout are part of the quote, not improvised on the roof.

  5. Step 5

    Switch-on

Your retailer updates the meter and we set up monitoring, which is the thing that will later tell you whether a storm did any damage. Note what a normal week looks like while you have one.
