Customer Solar Story: Adam’s 30-Year Journey to Solar & Battery | Kratos Energy
From experimenting with solar cells as a 13-year-old to installing a complete home solar and battery system, discover Adam Brindley’s inspiring renewable energy journey with Kratos Energy.
From a Childhood Fascination with Solar to a Home Powered by the Sun: Adam Brindley’s Journey
For some homeowners, going solar is about reducing electricity bills. For Adam Brindley, it was the fulfilment of an interest that began more than three decades ago.
At Kratos Energy, every installation has a story behind it. Recently, we were especially moved by a LinkedIn post shared by our customer Adam Brindley, who reflected on his lifelong fascination with solar technology and what it meant to finally install a complete solar and battery system at his home.
A Fascination That Started at 13
Adam’s interest in solar energy began long before rooftop solar became a familiar sight across Australian suburbs.
As a Year 7 science student at Telopea Park High School in Canberra, Adam entered the BHP Science and Innovation Competition with an idea that was remarkably forward-thinking for its time: solar blinds and shutters for homes.
His concept explored whether window coverings could generate electricity from sunlight—an idea that, decades later, has become increasingly possible through advancements in solar technology.
That early curiosity soon grew into hands-on experimentation. Adam recalls learning to build his own solar panels and even receiving solar cells from Solarex to experiment with.
What started as a school-age fascination became a lifelong appreciation for the simple but extraordinary idea of converting sunlight directly into usable electricity.
Building His Own Off-Grid Solar System
Years later, while living in a rental property where rooftop solar was not an option, Adam found another way to put his interest into practice.
Using components sourced through Marketplace, he assembled a small off-grid solar and battery system inside his garage.
It was modest, experimental and built piece by piece—but it kept his passion for renewable energy alive while giving him first-hand experience with solar generation and battery storage.
The system powered the garage for several years and became another chapter in a solar journey that had already stretched across decades.
Finally Going All-In on Solar and Battery
That journey recently reached an important milestone.
Adam was able to install a professionally designed solar and battery system at his home with Kratos Energy.
In his LinkedIn post, Adam described the moment as the realisation of his childhood solar ambitions, writing that his:
“geeky 13-year-old solar nerd dreams come true.”
For the Kratos Energy team, receiving feedback like this means far more than completing another installation.
Behind every solar system is a homeowner with different motivations—lower energy costs, greater energy independence, sustainability, battery backup, or, as in Adam’s case, a lifelong enthusiasm for renewable technology.
Making the Transition to Clean Energy Easier
Adam also highlighted the role that available government incentives and financing initiatives played in helping make his transition to solar and battery storage more achievable.
Government programs, rebates and renewable-energy incentives can significantly influence the affordability of a solar or battery installation. However, eligibility, available incentives and program conditions can change over time, so homeowners should always review the latest requirements and obtain advice based on their individual property and circumstances.
At Kratos Energy, our role goes beyond installing panels and batteries. We aim to help customers understand their energy requirements, explore suitable system options and navigate the transition to cleaner, smarter household energy.
More Than an Installation
Adam’s story is a reminder of how far solar technology has come.
What once required a curious teenager to experiment with individual solar cells has evolved into sophisticated residential energy systems capable of generating, storing and managing electricity for an entire home.
For Adam, the installation represents the culmination of a journey that started in a school science competition more than 30 years ago.
For us, it represents exactly why customer stories matter.
We are grateful to Adam for trusting Kratos Energy with such an important milestone and for sharing his experience publicly.
Seeing a lifelong passion for solar finally become part of someone’s everyday home energy system is something our entire team is proud to have played a role in.
Congratulations, Adam and welcome to the next chapter of your solar journey.
