Solar panels in Erina

Solar, batteries and EV chargers for Erina, Erina Fair, Holgate, Matcham, East Gosford, Point Frederick, Springfield, Lisarow and Niagara Park — the whole 2250 postcode. Look at any quote, ours included, and the two headline numbers do not match: 6.6kW of panels, a 5kW inverter. That is not a mistake or a saving at your expense, and the reason is the most useful technical thing a solar customer can understand.

  • 6.6kW systems estimated from about $3,990 after the STC discount
  • Array size and inverter AC rating both named in the quote
  • Hybrid-ready inverters where a battery is likely later

Estimates only, including GST, checked October 2026. STC figures use postcode 2250, 2026 deeming and an assumed $38 per certificate — the discount you receive depends on the certificate market on your installation date. Savings are modelled on typical usage and tariffs and are not a guarantee.

The two numbers that never match

Why 6.6kW of panels runs on a 5kW inverter

It is the question we are asked more than any other, usually with a suspicion attached — that the inverter has been undersized to save money at the customer's expense. The opposite is true. Deliberately putting more panels on a smaller inverter is the standard and correct way to build a residential system, and the reason is about how roofs behave rather than how accountants do.

132% of the inverter

The scheme allows an array of up to 133% of the inverter's AC rating while still earning certificates. 6.6kW on a 5kW inverter is 132%, sitting just inside it — which is why that pairing is so common that it looks like a typo.

Panels rarely hit nameplate

A panel's rated output is a laboratory figure measured at full sun and a 25°C cell temperature. A real roof gives you one or the other, almost never both, and never for long. An array sized to its inverter would spend nearly all day underfeeding it.

About 1% is clipped

When the array does briefly exceed what the inverter can convert, the inverter holds at its limit and the surplus goes unharvested. At the ratios used in Australia that costs roughly one per cent of annual output, bought with better production across every other hour of the year.

The inverter is the component you will actually deal with

Panels degrade slowly by design and generally outlive their warranties. Inverters are electronics working hard every day and they stop outright, which is why a dark system is nearly always an inverter problem. Three consequences worth carrying into a quote. Warranty terms run from about five to twelve years depending on the brand, and the difference is real money later. If a battery is likely, a hybrid inverter now is far cheaper than replacing hardware then — our 10kW package is specified hybrid-ready for that reason, and if you are certain storage will never happen, do not pay for the capability. And the number your network assesses for an export limit is the inverter's AC rating, not the panel capacity, which is the third reason the two figures on your quote are not supposed to match.

Network rules change and every connection is approved on its own merits — we confirm the limit that applies to your address in writing before install day.

Where that inverter ends up mattering

An inverter is electronics in a box on an outside wall, and electronics run hot and throttle their output when they do. Which wall it goes on is a performance decision as much as a tidy one — out of the western sun, close to the switchboard so every metre of cable is not costing you, and with space planned for a battery whether or not you are buying one today. Our Parklea page covers the placement question properly.

Batteries

Adding a battery in Erina

Home batteries attract two separate incentives. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program takes an estimated $3,402 off a 13.5 kWh battery, and NSW’s NSW VPP connection incentive (battery via federal program) can add more on top. Already have solar? We check your inverter first — some systems take a battery as they are, others need a hybrid inverter.

+ NSW

NSW virtual power plant (VPP) incentive when you connect an eligible battery to a VPP, on top of the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount. The NSW upfront battery discount ended for installs from 1 July 2025.

Planning an EV?

Size your solar for it now. Our 10kW package comes pre-wired for a battery and an EV charger, so adding one later is a small job rather than a rebuild.

From quote to switch-on

How an Erina install works

  1. Step 1

    Free assessment

We review your roof, shading, switchboard and a recent bill, and work out which inverter suits the array — including whether you want the option of a battery later.

  2. Step 2

    Written quote

A quote naming the panel and inverter make and model, the array size and the inverter's AC rating, so the relationship between the two numbers is visible rather than assumed.

  3. Step 3

    Network approval

We lodge your grid-connection application and confirm any export limit before install day. The inverter's AC rating is the number the network cares about, which is why it is settled here.

  4. Step 4

    Installation

Accredited electricians install, test and commission the system, then clean up. The inverter goes somewhere shaded and close to the switchboard, for reasons that are about performance rather than tidiness.

  5. Step 5

    Switch-on

Your retailer updates the meter, we set up monitoring, and you get the compliance paperwork naming the inverter model — the component you are most likely to need that paperwork for.
