Solar panels in Mittagong

Solar, batteries and EV chargers for Mittagong, Welby, Braemar, Renwick, Aylmerton, Willow Vale, Colo Vale, Hill Top and Yerrinbool — the whole 2575 postcode. At about 635 metres, this is the coldest place we work, and that changes one thing no quote mentions: the shape of your year. The annual total is good and the rebate is identical to Sydney's. What is different is that your biggest bills and your smallest production arrive in the same months.

  • 6.6kW systems estimated from about $3,990 after the STC discount
  • Sized against a full year of bills, not a good December day
  • An honest account of what winter here does and does not cost you

Winter at 635 metres

The thing about solar up here that nobody puts in a quote

Mittagong sits about 635 metres above sea level, with frost and valley fog through winter — a genuinely different climate from the coastal Sydney where most of our work is. That does not make solar a poor idea here. It changes which months do the work, and that should change how a system is sized.

Cold is good for panels

A panel is rated at a 25°C cell temperature and a typical modern panel loses roughly 0.3% of its output for every degree above that. Below 25°C the relationship runs the other way — a cold, clear Highlands day can push instantaneous output above the nameplate figure.

It is the daylight, not the degrees

Shorter days, a lower sun angle, and fog that can sit in the valleys until mid-morning. That is the whole of the winter shortfall, and no equipment choice removes it. What helps is design: north-facing panels and a steeper pitch favour a low winter sun, where a roof offers the choice.

Our modelling figure is a Sydney average

The 4.1 kWh per kW per day used on this site and in our calculators is a Sydney-region annual average applied state-wide. It is honest as an annual figure and it is not a Mittagong measurement — winter days here sit below it and summer days above. We would rather say so than quote a number we have not measured.

Your peak demand and your peak production are six months apart

This is the part worth sitting with before you choose a size. A Highlands house uses the most power on a cold June evening, and a solar system produces nothing at all on a June evening. That is not a fault in the system, it is the reason sizing here should be done on a full year of consumption and on what you can genuinely use in daylight. Three practical consequences. If you heat with reverse cycle, running it through the afternoon to get ahead of the evening is a load solar reaches, while the same unit at seven o'clock is not. North-facing panels and a steeper pitch favour winter, if your roof gives you the choice. And a battery shifts a day, not a season — it will carry an evening in March, and it will not carry a week of fog in July. Anyone telling you otherwise is selling you storage.

Network rules change and every connection is approved on its own merits — we confirm the limit that applies to your address in writing before install day.

The same physics, the other way around

The temperature coefficient that works quietly in your favour at 635 metres is the same one that costs output on a black roof in South West Sydney in February. Our Carnes Hill page takes that end of it — what forty-degree days actually do to a system, and why the answer is ventilation under the array and a good temperature coefficient rather than hesitating. Between the two of them you have the whole of what temperature does to solar, which is less than the internet suggests and in both directions.

Batteries

Adding a battery in Mittagong

Home batteries attract two separate incentives. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program takes an estimated $3,402 off a 13.5 kWh battery, and NSW’s NSW VPP connection incentive (battery via federal program) can add more on top. Already have solar? We check your inverter first — some systems take a battery as they are, others need a hybrid inverter.

≈ $3,402

Estimated federal rebate on 13.5 kWh of usable storage

+ NSW

NSW virtual power plant (VPP) incentive when you connect an eligible battery to a VPP, on top of the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount. The NSW upfront battery discount ended for installs from 1 July 2025.

Planning an EV?

Size your solar for it now. Our 10kW package comes pre-wired for a battery and an EV charger, so adding one later is a small job rather than a rebuild.

From quote to switch-on

How a Mittagong install works

  1. Step 1

    Free assessment

We review your roof, shading, switchboard and a recent bill — a full year of bills if you have them, because one quarter tells us very little about a house up here.

  2. Step 2

    Written quote

A quote naming the panel and inverter models, the system size, the total price and what is excluded, sized against your annual consumption rather than a good summer day.

  3. Step 3

    Network approval

We lodge your grid-connection application and confirm any export limit before install day.

  4. Step 4

    Installation

Accredited electricians install, test and commission the system, then clean up. Frost moves a start time rather than a date — nobody is working on a slippery roof at seven in the morning in July.

  5. Step 5

    Switch-on

Your retailer updates the meter, we set up monitoring, and you get the compliance paperwork. Watch the first winter on the monitoring rather than on a bill, so you know what normal looks like here.

Project Overview Location: Endeavour Hills, Victoria Solar System Size: 10.45 kW Solar Panels: Jinko Solar Battery Storage: 32 kWh Battery Brand: GoodWe Project Type: Residential Solar + Battery Installation Status: Completed The Solution The property was equipped with a high-capacity rooftop solar system using Jinko solar panels, strategically installed to make effective use of the available roof space. The 10.45 kW solar array works alongside a substantial 32 kWh GoodWe battery system, allowing solar energy generated during the day to be stored for use when required. Rather than relying solely on electricity from the grid after sunset, the household can make greater use of energy generated from its own rooftop solar system. Why Solar + Battery? Combining solar generation with battery storage gives homeowners greater control over how and when they use electricity. This installation is designed to help the household: Increase the use of self-generated solar energy Store excess daytime solar production for later use Reduce reliance on grid electricity Make better use of solar energy during evenings and high-demand periods Gain greater control over household energy consumption Build a more energy-resilient home Reduce exposure to rising electricity costs over the long term Built for Long-Term Energy Independence With 10.45 kW of solar generation capacity and 32 kWh of battery storage, this Endeavour Hills installation represents a significant step towards greater household energy independence. The combination of Jinko solar technology and GoodWe energy storage provides the homeowner with a modern energy solution designed around both current electricity requirements and future energy needs.
